Stirrup-Spout Bottle

Description

  • Blackware moulded vessel in the shape of a bird. 
  • Stirrup-spout is located at the back of the bird.
  • This type of earthenware vessel is given the name of "Huaco" in Peru.
  • Made by the Indigenous peoples of Peru.

Background Information

  • Purchased in Peru as a memento by Charles Wallen.
  • This type of pottery is usually linked to ceremonial, religious, or artistic uses rather than utilitarian due to their high provenience in burials and temples.
